Electromyography

The goal of this project is to develop an electrical system that would be able to sense the muscle movements with the array of electrodes placed on the skin. The main challenge is to be able to differentiate the signal to a single muscle fiber group by picking up on the signals from the skin surface. This project is being done under the guidance of Prof. Madhav Rao (IIIT Bangalore) and Dr. Vikas Vazhayil and Dr. T Rao Laxmi (National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences).

Currently the hardware design of the electronics and the prototype is complete. With a 2 channel setup and a simple SVM classifier, we were able to differentiate  individual finger movements. Further testing is being done to increase the range of movement prediction and the accuracy.
